Start with everything in the raceway
Enter every insulated conductor for fill. Then determine which conductors count for ampacity adjustment from the actual circuit arrangement. Do not count only the hot wires by habit.
Grounds and neutrals are different
Equipment grounding and bonding conductors do not count toward current-carrying adjustment. An insulated equipment ground still takes up physical space.
A neutral that carries only the imbalance from other conductors of the same circuit may be excluded under the applicable rule. Other neutrals count; nonlinear loads and particular multiwire arrangements need attention. PassPull does not infer this from a conductor’s role or quantity.
A simple count example
Three independent two-wire line-to-neutral circuits have six current-carrying conductors: three line conductors and three load-carrying neutrals. Add one appropriately selected insulated equipment ground and the physical fill count is seven. The adjustment count remains six.
That example is not a rule for all three-circuit arrangements. A shared-neutral configuration can require a different count. Confirm the configuration before using an exclusion.

Use NEC 2023 310.15(E) and (F) for neutral and grounding-conductor treatment, and Table 310.15(C)(1) for the adjustment factor. If you cannot establish the correct count, the result is not ready to rely on.
